4 Cooling Foods You Need This Summer!

In the high heat of summer it can be tempting to reach for a coke or other carbonated sugary drink to quench your thirst, but did you know these drinks can actually dehydrate you?

Drinks high in sugar can draw water out of your cells, leaving you thirsty and at risk for dehydration.

Of course, when the sun is shining and the weather glorious, you want to spend as much time as you can outdoors, soaking up the rays, from lounging on the beach to adrenaline-filled adventures!

Along with sipping on some water with one of your favorite flavors of Ener-C, did you know that there are some super hydrating foods you can munch on too?

Pouring a package of Lemon Lime Vitamin C drink mix into a glass fo water

These four cooling foods are so high in water content, they’ll nourish and cool you down and infuse your body with an array of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.

Dive on in!

Cucumber

That old saying “cool as a cucumber” may be truer than you think!

Sliced cucumber here is high in water content and full of nutrients and minerals to hydrate in the summer

Not only do cucumbers have the highest water content of any solid food on the planet, they’re also brimming in nutrients and minerals to help flush out toxins and leave you feeling refreshed from the inside out.

Dip some fresh slices in creamy hummus for a delicious cooling treat or add a few slices along with antioxidant-rich lemon to a pitcher of plain water to really spruce it up!

Watermelon

No summer is complete without enjoying at least a few juicy, sweet watermelons!

A sliced watermelon here is nearly entirely all water content and full of antioxidants to stay quenched in the summer

With a whopping 92% water content, you can be sure this succulent fruit will help to keep you hydrated. It doesn’t end there though. Watermelons are jam-packed in antioxidants, including lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that has been linked to heart health and may reduce the risk of cancer.

Try this watermelon spritzer recipe for a really fun way to enjoy everyone’s favorite fruit!

Pineapple

We hate to choose favorites, but if we’re really honest, we have to admit that pineapple is definitely top of our cooling summer foods list!

Not only is this fruit ideal to satisfy even the strongest sweet cravings, it’s rich in an enzyme called bromelain, which has been known to reduce inflammation in the body. Considering that inflammation is one of the root causes of disease, we don’t need any more motivation to snack on this one all season long.

Ener'c Pineapple Coconut Vitamin C Drink Mix packet with cut pineapple and full of bromelain for a summer refresher

If you’re a pina colada lover then you may want to try our Ener-C Pineapple Coconut, which can be added to cold water for a delicious, but most importantly healthy take on the classic pina colada.

Apples

There are so many different apple varieties that you’re almost certain to find one that satisfies your taste buds. From the tart granny smith to the sweeter fuji apples, we promise there’s one for you!

Granny Smith Green Apple here is a fibre-rich summer snack and good for digestion

Apples are rich in water as well as fiber to help keep your digestive system running smoothly and to keep you full in between meals.

While apple pie may be a favorite during the fall, summer is all about enjoying apples in their cool and natural state. Try dipping them in peanut butter for a snack you won’t forget or for a slightly naughtier (yet still healthy!) treat, dip them in some melted dark chocolate, allow to cool and get munching!

While we’re all for warming foods during the chilly months, like root vegetables, summer is all about cooling foods that will act as your very own internal A/C. These are just four of our favorites, but we’d love to hear yours in the comments!
