Tips for Improving your Digestion Naturally

Did you know that your digestive system plays a bigger role than you may realize in your body?

Apart from it’s obvious role of digesting your food, a healthy digestive system is a major factor in the production of your brain’s happy chemical, serotonin. When your gut isn’t functioning as it should then not only will you experience symptoms like pain, gas and bloating, your body may not be able to produce sufficient amounts of serotonin either.

This means that a poor functioning digestive system can affect your mood as much as it affects you physically.

In this article we will share a few simple ways you can improve your digestion naturally so you can enjoy a calm tummy and feel good every day!

Start your day with some warm lemon water

Warm water with the juice of half a lemon first thing in the morning is a great way to kickstart your digestive system as the day begins. Warm lemon water helps to gently detoxify the liver on a daily basis, which in turn helps to improve digestive health. Wait at least 30 minutes before having any other drinks, including that morning cup of Joe!

Avoid cold drinks with meals

To be honest, we don’t really recommend cold drinks at any time of the day, however, it’s especially important to avoid them alongside meals. Cold drinks can actually halt digestion causing some nasty (and embarrassing) symptoms like pain, bloating and gas. No, thanks!  Instead, try warm teas that aid in digestion like peppermint, ginger and dandelion.

Cut back on sugar

Sugar actually depletes good gut bacteria, so if you find yourself reaching for sugar-laden sports drinks on the regular then you may want to think twice. Our ener-c sachets are the perfect low-sugar, caffeine-free alternative to traditional sports drinks, but you’ll still enjoy a burst of energy thanks to an infusion of powerful vitamins, antioxidants and electrolytes!

Eat in a mindful, relaxed manner

Did you know that when you are stressed your body actually releases stress hormones, one of which is called cortisol. These hormones can enter your digestive tract and cause those stomach symptoms you may call an anxious tummy. To help minimize the effects of stress on your gut, try and take a few nice, deep breaths before eating. Trust us, it works!

 Make the right food choices

Last, but not least, please do make sure you are choosing foods that will boost good gut bacteria rather than deplete it! Avoid processed foods with no nutrient value and be sure to fill your body with leafy greens, healthy fats and a rainbow of fruits and veggies.

This is a great protein-rich breakfast that also includes a dose of healthy fats from creamy avocado and is a great way to start your day.

These tips are easy to incorporate into your daily life and they really do make a major difference. Say goodbye to that gurgling gut and be prepared for calm tummy days ahead!
