You know that sluggish feeling that tends to hit around 3pm? You may have felt energetic all day, but then around 3pm your energy starts to wane and you feel ready for a long nap.
There’s a few reasons for this, but what we highly encourage you not to do is rely on a caffeine boost to get you going. Sure, it’s a great temporary fix, but if you’re looking for a longer, more sustained solution then this article is for you!
We’re going to share a few simple ways you can beat the 3pm slump without endless cups of Joe or a naughty sugar fix!
Don’t skip breakfast
It’s tempting to skip breakfast when you’re in a rush but this can completely throw off your blood sugar, causing you to binge on a heavy meal, which can then turn into feelings of sluggishness later on.
Fill up on a nice fiber and protein rich breakfast to keep your blood sugar perfectly balanced and to keep you focused and full of energy for the day ahead! We love a good bowl of oatmeal with toppings like fresh or frozen fruit, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, coconut, cacao nibs and any other healthy option that takes your fancy!
Avoid sugary snacks
Sugar raises your insulin and offers an instant “sugar high” which may leave you feeling like the energizer bunny.
However, when your insulin levels drop and your sugar high wears off it can leave you feeling tired, irritable and oh-so-sluggish. Skip the office donuts and pack your own energy boosting snacks such as healthy crackers dipped in hummus, raw veggies dipped in guacamole or a handful of raw nuts to keep you full and satisfied.
Take your vitamins
Sometimes we need to rely on supplementation of certain multivitamins and essential minerals to help keep our energy levels up, not to mention boost our immunity so our bodies are better able to deal with stress.
Our Ener-c sachets are ideal as an afternoon pick-me-up, instead of that sugary soda pop. Filled with immunity boosting Vitamin C and B vitamins to help your body better manage stress and to seriously boost your energy, these will soon be a staple in your work bag!
Nothing shrugs off fatigue faster than getting the blood moving, but we know it may be a little difficult to do a full out workout in the office!
Five or ten minutes is all you really need though, so try taking the stairs instead of the elevator, squeeze in a few jumping jacks or try these stretches you can do right at your desk without looking weird! These tips will help you to maintain your energy all day so you can tackle everything on your to do list like a boss!
